Kajiya is located in village of Kyojo in the Higashi-Iya part of Miyoshi City. From almost all points in Shikoku or Honshu, it is best to use the Ikawa-Ikeda I.C. exit on the Tokushima Expressway. Only if coming from the south (Kochi area) would it be better to use the Otoyo I.C. exit on the Kochi Expressway.

From either I.C. exit it takes about 70-75 minutes to reach Kajiya, with the main driving route to Kajiya or to the Iya Valley first going via National Route 32 to Oboke.

From Oboke it is about a 40 minute drive to Kajiya. From Oboke, take the curvy Route 45 up the hill and eventually through a long mountain tunnel. The road then goes down into the Nishi-Iya ("West Iya") part of the Iya Valley. Route 45 will merge into Prefectural Route 32 in Nishi-Iya, and it then continues through 2 small tunnels to reach the area around the Kazurabashi Vine Bridge (at the road junction before the Kazurabashi Bridge, turn left to follow the signs for "Tsurugisan" and "Higashiiya").

After the Kazurabashi junction the road will sometimes be one-laned, so please be careful. It is about a 20 minute drive from here to Kajiya. After passing the Kazurabashi area you will go through 3 tunnels during the drive to Kajiya. The first tunnel is about 10 minutes away and it is short (about 100 meters long, called "Oshima Tunnel"), the second tunnel is another 5 minutes away and it is longer (about 500 meters long, called "Ryugu Tunnel") and the third tunnel is a few minutes more away and it is the longest (about 1000 meters long, called "Kyojo Tunnel"). Just before entering the Kyojo Tunnel the road merges with Rt 439 with the sign pointing left for "Tsurugisan".

About 100 meters (or about 10 seconds) after you go through and exit the third tunnel (Kyojo Tunnel) you need to turn left to go over a bridge. After crossing the bridge turn right (follow the sign here pointing right for "Higashiiya General Ofc."). Follow this road about 500 meters passing a couple houses, and you will then need to turn left up a steep narrow road (this turn is just before a small parking area, with a small sign for "Kajiya Iya Romantei" is on the right side before the turn). Kajiya is located about 150 meters up this road on the right.

Free Parking. Just park next to Shino-san's small white camper van (you can see a photo of his van at the bottom of this page). And if you need, a gasoline station is located nearby Kajiya in Kyojo Village. Shino-san can show you where it is if necessary.

By Train
Kaj Oboke.jpg

The closest train station would be JR Oboke Station on the Dosan Line. It is about 40 minutes by car/taxi or 55 minutes by bus from Oboke Station to Kajiya. Four bus per day go from Oboke Station to Kajiya. See Bus Info below.

For train times in English, see here.

Shino-san can also pick you up from Oboke Station if you arrange this with him (see below for Pick Up details).

By Bus

The closest bus stop to Kajiya is "Kyojo-shimo" bus stop 京上下 バス停 which is near the main Kyojo bus stop. It is just a few minute walk from Kyojo-shimo bus stop to Kajiya. There are 4 main buses per day operated by Shikoku Kotsu to this bus stop, with the buses starting from Awa-Ikeda Bus Terminal in Ikeda Town (about 95 minutes away), then going to JR Oboke Station (about 55 minutes away), then to the Kazurabashi Vine Bridge (about 25 minutes away).

If taking the bus, tell the driver after the Kazurabashi bus stop that you want to get off at "Kyojo-shimo" so that he knows to stop there.

From Kyojo-shimo bus stop, walk about 40 meters up the road and then turn left up a steep narrow road (this turn is just before a small parking area with a small sign for "Kajiya Iya Romantei" is on the right side before the turn). Kajiya is located about 150 meters up this road on the right.

For Bus Schedules in English, see here (use the times for the main "Kyojo" bus stop, which is about 1 minute beyond Kyojo-shimo bus stop).

”Samurai" Shino-san and the IyaBus

The "IyaBus" from Takamatsu, Takamatsu Airport, and Kotohira with KotoBus also goes to the "Kazurabashi Yumebutai" bus stop once a day. The main Kazurabsahi bus stop is about a 10 minute walk from Kazurabashi Yumebutai bus stop. Shino-san can also pick you up from Kazurabashi Yumebutai bus stop if you arrange this with him (see below for Pick Up details).

Pick Up Service and Taxi

Shino-san can also pick you up if you ask him when you contact for a reservation. He can pick you up from either JR Oboke Station or from Kazurabashi Yumebutai (the large parking area for the Kazurabashi Vine Bridge). Sorry, he can only pick you up from these two places, otherwise it is too difficult for him to locate you.

When you contact, please say what time and which place you would like to be picked up.

Kaj car.jpg

Please understand, he can only take a maximum of 3 guests in his camper van, and only 1 person can sit in the seat in front (and the others need to sit sideways on the bed in the back).

For pick up from other locations or for more people, if you would like to take a taxi, you can contact either the Kazurabashi Taxi Company or the Iyakei Taxi Company
